This devastation affect the southerners in many ways. It destroyed the homes of many. Leaving lots of families homeless. Also it made America in a lot of debt. This kind of damage will take years to rebuild

I have reviewed the picture on page 517 and i think that this devastation did have a big affect on Southerners. The picture has a caption that said "This picture shows the most important cities lay in ruins." Since the most important cities were ruined i think a lot of people will be devastated and i also this it will take a lot of effort, money, and time to rebuild such a big place. A lot of the Souths homes, railroad tracks, and their financial system had been ruined. I can imagine it left them in great devastation that basically their home town had been destroyed.

The devestation probably had a huge effect on the Southerners. Some people probably spent their whole lives in the South builing solid foundations for themselves and their families and all the sudden it was gone. The people in the South probably felt lost and alone because every thing they worked hard for was gone. There was also the problem of the freed slaves, because they worked all their lives on a plantation, they had every thing they needed to survie given to them; food, water, shelter. After the war when they were set free they were left without anything, most them didn't even know how to read or write so their chances of getting a job were slim and none. There was also probably alot of malnourished people because of the farms being destroyed. Also there was a finnancial crisis so by the end of the reconstruction the nation's debt had to increased alittle.

This devastation had a huge effect. Many homes, plantations and even parts of the railroad were destroyed from the war. They had to rebuild the economy. Confederate money was worth nothing . Southern banks were closed and any money people had saved was lost. This left the people jobless, homeless and broke.

After reading pages 514-520 the two main problems for the South, post civil war were that most of the rail roads were destroyed and the cities of Columbia, Richmand, and Atlanta were leveled.

The South was at a great disadvantage after the civil war. Since the majority of battles were fought there, many homes, buildings, and shelters were destroyed. It would cost a lot of money to recover from all the damage that was done there, money that they didn't have. As if being in debt wasn't bad enough, the South was also facing another problem at this time, what to do with the slaves. All their life they

I agree with CM. Since more than half of the battles during the Civil War were fought in the South, it must have been hard for people in the South to rebuild and get their lives back together. I think that the people in the South probably didn't have much money or food. Most of their crops were probably destroyed when the armies were fighting on southern land. Plus, there wasn't as many people buying the crops when men were at war because families didn't have as much money. I think that Lincoln's Reconstruction Plan probably helped the people living in the South though. The Reconstruction Plan made it so any southern state could create a new government after more than 10% of its voters swore they would never break apart from the Union again. They had to prove that they were loyal to the United States, since they had already shown otherwise when the seceded from the country years earlier. The southerners probably lost a ton of money and all of their crops during the war. I think it probably took the South years to rebuild and replant all the crops. I think that freedmen had the biggest problems of all though. They had no money, shelter, food, or families. It really wasn't fair that the slaves were freed but still were not given any financial help. I think Freedmen's Bureau was a very generous agency. It helped all the freedmen find jobs, and gave the men clothes and food.

This effected the devastation of the Southerners because all of their cities were ruined. The towns people lived in for years were gone and it was scary for some Southerners. It would deffiently take a while for the South to reconstruct their towns and cities. On top of having troubles with the rebuilding of towns and cities, the South had to figure out what to do with the slaves since there were so many. Some of the former slaves didn't have education. They couldn't go out and find jobs fast because most of them had to at least involve reading and writing. When they finished figuring out what to do with the former slaves and find money to reconstruct the towns and cities, the South moved on because they had no other choice.

In my opinion the effect that, this type of devastation had on the Southerners was very distressing for many because not only were cities, farms, and homes destroyed but people who had loaned money to the Confederacy were never paid back. Because of this, people without jobs were most likely going into bankruptcy, and or broke. Plus it was a very bleak time, and people who had been saving up for years lost their savings, because banks couldnt afford to stay open. On top of that it was also a very tough time especially on the freedmen, because they didn't have an education, and did not have many open doors for employment, which also ment no roof over their heads, no food to feed the family, and no water to stay alive.

The devestation made southerners life a lot harder. It put them in debt, the people with out jobs went broke, leaving many families homeless&broke with nothing at all. The reconstruction of the south would cost so much creating a bigger debt to pay. It was probebly extremely hard as far as money and food goes, most of the Souths crops&other sources were destroyed.

The devastation affected southerners in many ways. A lot of their cities got destroyed in the war as well as railroads and crops. This made it very difficult to get food. Also, the south was was in debt and money was a big issue for many. It definitely had a big effect on the south.

I have analyzed the picture on page 517 and I can infer that this devastation affected the southerners in many ways. Many homes, buildings, and cities got destroyed and rebuilding everything must have been very hard. The south was also in debt and the rebuilding definitely did not help with the money situation. It must have been very hard for the southerners.

The picture on page 517 shows Richmond, Viginia after the war. The South had a disadvantage in the war because mostly all the battles were fought on their grounds. The North was almost untouched and was barely ruined. Almost every farm, barn, and house was burnt. Like in the reading it mentioned that the confederate money was worthless after fighting the war."People who had loaned money to the Confederacy were never repaid" From reading this statement I could understand that the Southerners would be very angry. I assume this because I know if I was in that position I would be mad. In conclusion the South suffered a lot harder than the North.

This affected the lives of people in many ways, houses were destroyed, towns were going to have to be rebuilt. Another thing on top of the problems they now had to face was food. Food had to be grown on farms, but that couldn't happen if the farms were destroyed as well. There was no way to buy anything to re-build homes or fix up anything because people who had loaned money to the confederacy, never got paid back. I think that this affected people a lot and it would be very hard to live life when you have little money, no home, and limited food.
